About Lincoln Park Boat Club:
Lincoln Park Boat Club is your source for sea kayaking, rowing and sculling in Chicago. Since 1910 Lincoln Park Boat Club has provided boats, classes and sheltered water for recreational and competitive sea kayaking, rowing and sculling just minutes from downtown Chicago. Sea kayaking classes are offered to club members and non-club members.
Membership at Lincoln Park Boat Club is affordable and Club members have unlimited use of our impressive fleet of boats and equipment. Our location on the Lincoln Park Lagoon makes it convenient for workouts before or after work.

Because we have access to both open water and protected water we can tailor our classes to fit the prevailing conditions. If the lake is calm we hit the big water, if it's not, we stay in the lagoon and the harbor where it's always calm and smooth.

Corporate or group outings

Tired of the same old corporate outings?
Sea kayaking on Lake Michigan is a great option when you want to find something different to do with your group. And, sea kayaking is an activity that almost anyone can do.
We have the equipment and instructors to handle groups as large as 25 people, with kids boats for up to 15 younger paddlers.

CLASSES
Kayak Adventure - $40
Ever wanted to try kayaking in the shadow of Chicago’s skyline? This is your opportunity! LPBC offers a safe and fun way to try kayaking in Chicago. Whether you’re a complete novice or more experienced paddler looking to get out on the water, this class is for you. Group is led by experienced kayak instructor. Boat, paddle and safety equipment provided.
In good conditions, group will paddle on Lake Michigan for an unparalleled view of the city. If conditions require, group will stay on Lincoln Park lagoon. Great group activity for out of town guests, girls’ day out or as a gift to that outdoorsy friend. No experience is required. Age limit = 12 years old or instructor approval.
Intro to Kayaking I - $60
This class is designed for beginners with minimal or no sea kayaking experience. It will also be helpful for less experienced sea kayakers who want a refresher course.
Classes run from 8:00 am – Noon.
We will cover
-
basic stroke technique
- safely entering and exiting a sea kayak (including exiting upon capsize),
- self and assisted rescues
- safety issues on the water
All participants should come prepared to get wet. Wet suits will be provided.
Intro to Kayaking II - $60
This class is a follow-up course to Intro to Kayaking I. Skill development will continue for beginners and intermediate paddlers.
We will cover:
- Boat anatomy, design and selection
- Advanced stroke techniques and boat control including steering strokes and forward stoke introduction
- Paddling rudder vs. skeg kayaks
- Self rescues
- Safety issues on the water
If conditions are suitable, the class will conclude out on the open lake.
Classes run from 8:00 am – Noon.
